Modelling and technical studies

We model how emissions, noise and discharges will spread before a project is built, so its design and permit rest on numbers, not guesses.

Overview

Some impacts cannot be measured until a project exists. Modelling predicts them from the design: how a stack plume disperses, how far noise travels, how a discharge mixes into the sea, how groundwater responds to pumping.

We build the models from site data and the project design, test the scenarios that matter and present the results in a form NCEC reviewers and engineers can use.

When you need it

  • Your EIA must predict air, noise or water impacts.NCEC guide LO-1-M-005, technical requirements
  • You will discharge to the sea and need to show how the discharge mixes.Marine reg. (1448H)
  • You need to compare design options before committing to one.

What we deliver

  • Air dispersion modellingGround-level concentrations from stacks and area sources.
  • Noise modellingPropagation to receptors, including outdoor methods based on ISO 9613-2.
  • Mixing zone modellingDilution of discharges into the sea or surface water.
  • Groundwater modellingDrawdown and flow for dewatering and abstraction.
  • Technical reportInputs, assumptions, scenarios and results.

How we work

  1. Gather inputs

Design data, site measurements and meteorology.

  2. Build the model

Set up and checked against measured data where it exists.

  3. Run scenarios

Normal operation, worst case and design options.

  4. Report

Results that feed the EIA and the design.
